On October 13, 2023, a teacher was killed and two other adults were gravely injured in a knife assault at a high school in Arras, northeastern France.
The assailant, a 20-year-old Chechen guy, was from Russia’s predominantly Muslim southern Caucasus province of Chechnya and was already listed on a French national register known as “Fiche S” as a potential security danger.
During the incident, the offender yelled the Arabic slogan “Allahu akbar!” (God is greatest!). A school security guard was stabbed numerous times and is battling for his life, and a teacher is in less bad condition. There were no injuries among the students at the school.
The attack came almost three years to the day after a Chechen beheaded teacher Samuel Paty near his school in a Paris suburb on October 16, 2020. French President Emmanuel Macron visited the attack site in Arras.
Police detained the suspect, while his 17-year-old sibling was detained near another school. An investigation into the attack has been launched right away.
