The Nigeria Police Force has issued a summons to Joe Ajaero, the National President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), for questioning regarding serious allegations, including terrorism financing, cybercrime, and other related offenses. The summons, detailed in a letter from the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Intelligence Response Team, was signed by Adamu S. Muazu and highlights Ajaero’s alleged involvement in criminal activities such as criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime.
According to the letter, Ajaero is expected to report for an interview on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the Old Abattoir near Guzape Junction in Abuja. The letter warns that failure to comply with the summons could result in his arrest.
“This office is investigating a case of Criminal Conspiracy, Terrorism Financing, Treasonable Felony, Subversion, and Cybercrime in which you have been implicated. You are therefore required to report to the undersigned for an interview on Tuesday, 20th August 2024, at 10:00 hrs prompt, at Old Abattoir by Guzape Junction, Abuja, through the Team Leader on telephone no 08035179870, in connection with the above investigation,” the letter reads.
In response to this development, the NLC has strongly condemned the government’s actions, accusing it of targeting the organization in a campaign of intimidation. This latest action follows a recent raid on the NLC headquarters by security forces. The police claimed the raid was part of an operation to apprehend an international terrorist suspect, but the NLC dismissed this explanation as a cover-up, citing inconsistencies in the police’s account.
During a press conference held last Thursday in Abuja, NLC leaders criticized the raid, demanding an apology from the government, the return of seized items, and the release of any detained individuals.
