NELFUND Explains Delay in South-East Student Loans

NELFUND Explains Delay in South-East Student LoansThe Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has responded to concerns about the exclusion of South-East institutions from recent student loan distributions. NELFUND clarified that the delay is due to these institutions not completing the required verification process necessary for the release of funds.

In a statement released on their official X (formerly Twitter) account, NELFUND stressed that the disbursement process is not influenced by geopolitical factors. “Geopolitical zones do not affect the disbursement process. NELFUND sent a verification list to all eligible institutions,” the statement read.

Funds are currently being disbursed to institutions that have completed the verification process, while those in the South-East are yet to respond. NELFUND is urging these institutions to complete the necessary steps so that their students can benefit from the loan scheme.

This statement follows frustration expressed by a social media user about the perceived neglect of South-East universities such as UNIZIK, FUTO, MOUAU, and the University of Nigeria (UNN) in the loan disbursement process. As of now, NELFUND has distributed approximately N2.9 billion to 27,667 students across 19 institutions that have completed the verification process.
