Nigerian singer and songwriter Afeeze Fashola, better known as Naira Marley, has finally broken his silence on the death of his former protégé Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka MohBad, who died on September 12, 2023, leaving behind a five-month-old son.
In an exclusive interview with social commentator and activist Reno Omokri, Naira Marley addressed the allegations and rumours that he was involved in MohBad’s death or had a feud with him over his exit from Marlian Music, the record label owned by Naira Marley.
Naira Marley denied any wrongdoing and claimed that he had been abroad since August 31, visiting his family, and had no knowledge of what happened to MohBad.
He also said that he had met with MohBad after he returned to Nigeria and that the deceased had apologized for making a viral video in which he accused Marlian Music of threatening his life.
Naira Marley also revealed that MohBad had been struggling with mental health issues and suicidal tendencies for a long time and that he had tried to help him.
He also refuted the claims that he assaulted MohBad or that he was responsible for the ill health of DJ Splash, another artist associated with Marlian Music.He said that he had a good relationship with both of them and that he did not receive any royalties from MohBad’s music after he left his label in 2022.
Naira Marley also confirmed his friendship with Samson Eletu, aka Sam Larry, who was arrested by the police in connection with MohBad’s death. He said that Sam Larry was innocent and that he had nothing to do with the attack on MohBad.
