The Nigerian police force has announced that it will conduct a thorough investigation into the death of popular singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad, who died on Tuesday, September 12, 2023.

The force public relations officer issued a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, expressing condolences to the family, friends and fans of the late Afrobeats star. He also assured the public that the police is committed to unraveling the cause of his death and will provide updates as the investigation progresses.

The statement came amid controversy and speculation over the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death. Some social media users have accused his former record label, Marlian Records, and its owner, Naira Marley, as well as Sam Larry, of being involved in his demise. This followed the revelation that Mohbad had reported an assault and threat to his life by Sam Larry in a letter dated June 27, 2023.

The police has urged anyone with valuable information to approach the Lagos state commissioner of police to assist in the investigation. The police has also appealed to the public to refrain from making statements or engaging in activities that could jeopardize the ongoing investigation.
