BREAKING: Federal Government Withdraws Suit Against NLC and others

The unions had organised a nationwide protest on August 2, 2023, against the removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

The Federal Government filed a contempt suit against the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for allegedly resisting an order restricting the unions from embarking on industrial action.

The unions had organised a nationwide protest on August 2, 2023, against the removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. The protest was condemned by the government as illegal and disruptive.

However, on August 7, 2023, the Federal Government withdrew its suit against the NLC and the TUC, saying it was no longer valid.

The government said it had taken into consideration the dialogue and consultation with the labour leaders and other stakeholders. The NLC confirmed the withdrawal of the suit and said it was ready to continue engaging with the government on the issues affecting the welfare of Nigerian workers.
