The Bishop of Anglican Communion Diocese of Makurdi, Rt. Revd. Nathan Inyom, has expressed his desire to work with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to tackle the problem of corruption in the church and the nation.
He made this known on Tuesday when he led a delegation to visit the Makurdi Zonal Command of the anti-graft agency.
According to a statement by the EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, the bishop said he was concerned about the way some people mismanage and embezzle church funds meant for development.
“We are here to interact with you, seeking ways of collaboration in terms of trying to understand the workings of the Commission better. How it can relate with the church, especially in terms of handling issues of sharp practices that result in malpractices and misappropriation,” he said.
The bishop also commended the EFCC for its role in safeguarding the financial integrity of the country and urged it to intensify its public enlightenment campaigns on the dangers of economic and financial crimes.
The Zonal Commander of EFCC Makurdi, Friday Ebelo, thanked the bishop for his visit and solicited his advice and prayers for the success of the commission’s mandate. He assured him that the EFCC would continue to partner with relevant stakeholders in the fight against corruption.
