Davido, one of the most successful and influential Afrobeats artists in Nigeria and beyond, has recently revealed his intention to retire from the music industry before his popularity wanes. In an interview video that was posted on Instagram by famous blogger and friend, Tunde Ednut, Davido stated that his greatest fear in his career is when people no longer go wild for his music.

He said that everybody goes through different phases in their career, and he does not want to get to a point where he becomes irrelevant or outdated.

“I never want to get there. I’m ‘gonna’ retire before I turn sour,” he said.

Davido’s retirement plan has sparked mixed reactions from his fans and fellow musicians. Some have praised him for being honest and realistic about his future, while others have expressed their disappointment and sadness over the possibility of losing one of their favorite stars.

Some have also questioned his motive for wanting to quit music, suggesting that he might have other plans or ambitions outside the music industry. Davido, who is also known as OBO (Omo Baba Olowo), meaning “son of a rich man”, is the son of billionaire businessman Adedeji Adeleke. He has been involved in various philanthropic and entrepreneurial activities, such as donating to schools, building houses for the needy, and launching his own record label, DMW (Davido Music Worldwide).

Davido has not given a specific timeline or date for his retirement, but he has hinted that it might happen sooner than later. He has also assured his fans that he will continue to make good music until he bows out gracefully.
