Kidnapper Faked His Own Kidnap in Delta State

According to the Delta State Police Command, Obeje is a member of Eiye confraternity, a notorious cult group that is involved in various criminal activities. On August 2, 2023, he and his accomplices kidnapped his elder brother and other members of his family, including Regina Ogana.

They demanded a ransom of N1.3 million for their release, which was paid by the brother. However, Regina Ogana did not survive the ordeal and was killed by the kidnappers.

A few days later, Obeje made a suspicious call to his brother, claiming that he was also kidnapped and that the kidnappers were demanding a ransom of N500,000 for his release. He instructed his brother to transfer the money into his own account as his ransom. The brother complied and sent the money to Obeje’s account.

However, the Delta State Police Command was already on the trail of Obeje and his gang, following the investigation of Regina Ogana’s murder. Acting on intelligence information, they stormed Odovie community in Ughelli North LGA and arrested Obeje at the same spot where the previous ransom was paid.

They also recovered his phone and bank details, which confirmed that he faked his own kidnap and collected the ransom from his brother.

The police spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, said that Obeje is in custody and the investigation is ongoing. He also said that the police are working hard to arrest the other members of his gang and bring them to justice.
