Governor Obaseki Names Edo Arena After Rema

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has announced that the new 6,000-capacity Edo Arena will be named after the internationally acclaimed afrobeats star, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema.

The announcement was made during the groundbreaking ceremony of the arena, which is set to become a major hub for entertainment and cultural events in Benin City. Governor Obaseki explained that naming the arena after Rema is a way to honor the artist’s contributions to music and his role as an ambassador for Edo State.

Rema represents the spirit of Edo State of resilient, talented, and full of potential,” said Governor Obaseki. “By naming this arena after him, we are celebrating his achievements and encouraging our youth to pursue their dreams with the same passion and dedication.”

Rema, who was present at the ceremony, expressed his gratitude and excitement about the honor. “This is a dream come true for me,” he said. “I am deeply honored and will continue to make Edo State proud.”

The Edo Arena, now known as Rema’s Dome, is expected to host a variety of events, including concerts, sports competitions, and other large gatherings. This development is anticipated to boost tourism and the local economy, attracting visitors from across Nigeria and beyond.

Governor Obaseki’s decision has been widely praised as a fitting tribute to Rema, whose music has brought global recognition to Edo State. The arena’s naming also serves as a source of inspiration for young people in the state, showing them that with hard work and talent, they too can achieve greatness.
