The stage is set for a thrilling quarterfinal match in the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) 2023 as Nigeria’s Super Eagles take on Angola’s Palancas Negras. The match will take place at the Felix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.

Nigeria, a three-time Afcon victor, is the favourite to win this game owing to their talent and experience.Victor Osimhen, the current African Player of the Year, will spearhead the Super Eagles assault alongside Ademola Lookman.They also have the tournament’s strongest defence, having conceded only one goal thus far.Stanley Nwabali, the Super Eagles’ custodian, has been deemed healthy and available for selection.
Angola, on the other hand, has a high morale after unexpectedly winning Group D with an unbeaten streak.This is their first quarterfinal match since hosting the tournament in 2010.Gelson Dala, their star striker who scored twice against Namibia, will lead the assault.Angola boasts one of the competition’s most potent offences, with nine goals in four games.
Coaches’ Comments
Nigeria’s coach, Jose Peseiro, expects a tough game. He said, “Angola is unpredictable with some very dangerous players. We cannot underestimate them.” He also added, “We will attack with 11 and defend with 11 as well.”
Angola’s coach, Pedro Gonçalves, stated, “We respect Nigeria but we do not fear anybody. The pressure is on them as favorites.”
