Nigerian singer and songwriter Brymo has stirred up controversy on social media after he made some disparaging remarks about three of the most popular Afropop artists in the country: Davido, Wizkid and Burna boy.
In an interview with TVC Nigeria, Brymo claimed that Davido, Wizkid and Burna boy are “thieves” who copied Fela Kuti’s style without originality.
He also said that they have not struggled like Fela did to pioneer the Afrobeat genre.

Brymo’s comments “thieves who copied Fela” did not sit well with many fans of the trio, who accused him of being jealous, bitter and disrespectful. Some also challenged him to prove his own musical prowess and relevance in the industry.
