The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) have announced their decision to embark on an indefinite nationwide strike from October 3, 2023, to protest against the federal government’s policies that have worsened the living conditions of Nigerians.
The labour unions made the declaration on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, after holding separate emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meetings in Abuja. They accused the government of being insensitive to the plights of workers and other Nigerians, following the removal of fuel subsidy and the implementation of other harsh economic measures.

They also urged all patriotic Nigerians to join hands across the nation to assist the government in putting the people back at the centre of its policies and programmes.
The planned strike is expected to have a significant impact on the economy and the lives of millions of Nigerians. It is also likely to affect other sectors such as education, health, transportation, banking, telecommunications and oil and gas.
