Senegalese-American singer and record producer Akon has opened up about his regret for not signing Nigerian rapper Olamide to his label, Konvict Music, some years ago.
He said that Olamide, who is the founder and CEO of YBNL Nation, was his favourite artiste back then and he wished he had signed him.
Akon made this revelation in a Skype interview with OAP, Oladotun Ojuolape Kayode, aka Do2Tun, of Cool FM, Lagos. He said that he was impressed by Olamide’s talent and versatility, and he admired how he signed and promoted a lot of new artists under his label.

“I would probably say the one person in Nigeria that I wish I had signed is Olamide. Honestly, I wish I had signed Olamide because he would have signed a lot of new artists anyway. Olamide was my favourite artist before he reinvented himself as a music executive. The first time we met, I told him he was my favourite artist,” Akon said.
Akon, who is known for his hit songs such as “Lonely”, “Smack That” and “Don’t Matter”, also praised other Nigerian artists such as Davido, Wizkid and Burna Boy for their achievements in the global music scene. He said that he was proud of them and he hoped to collaborate with them in the future.
